Welcome our Newest Board Chairperson
Dr. Mahmood Alam
Dr. Mahmood Alam is a Cardiologist in Woodbridge, New Jersey and has been in practice for over 25 years in the United States.
Dr. Alam has a history of involvement with social issues relating to Pakistan and is not new to HDF. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Society of International HELP (SIH) in 1997 when APPNA, SIH, and the Noor Foundation joined together to launch HDF. At this point, Dr. Alam joined HDF as a member of the Board of Trustees and was very helpful in the formative years of the organization. Dr. Alam also served HDF as member of its board of directors (BOD) from 2010-2012.
In addition to his history with HDF, Dr. Alam has also led the Associate of Pakistani-descent Physicians of North America (APPNA) as President in 2008 and has served in various leadership roles since 1995. More recently, Dr. Alam authored a book on APPNA history, APPNA Qissa II. “After these many years, we are pleased to welcome him back to this position and look forward to his leading us to new heights” Dr. Khalid Riaz, Board Chairperson of HDF Pakistan. The outgoing chairperson Dr. Atiya Khan believes that Dr. Alam is the best person for the next Chairperson of the Board of Directors.
Dr. Atiya Khan
Dr. Khan’s leadership will be missed, but her desire to see fresh blood, new energy, and new ideas coming to the HDF Board of Directors (BOD) has helped her make the decision to step down. Dr. Khan has served as a member of the Board of Directors for 20 years and has spent the last seven and a half years as HDF Board Chairperson. The BOD, in a recent meeting held on August 19, unanimously expressed their appreciation for Dr. Khan’s in a vote of thanks for her dedicated services.
Over the last 20 years, Dr. Khan spoke at several fundraising events, led the DC Volunteer Network, and has been a powerful ambassador for the organization with world leaders such as Pakistan Ambassador, Jalil Abbas Jilani, and US President and First Lady, Barack and Michelle Obama.
As Board Chairperson, Dr. Khan also supported medical and educational teams in HDF villages across Pakistan. Her encouragement and involvement with villagers, staff, donors, and volunteers have been influential. Her impact can be seen not only in numbers but in the stories many individuals have of her involvement in their lives.
