The Human Development Foundation (HDF) is a non-profit dedicated to empowering communities in Pakistan. Since 1997, we’ve tackled poverty through programs in education, health, economic growth, environment, and social development, helping people build lives of dignity, opportunity, and hope.
At HDF, we go beyond aid to create lasting change. Through programs in education, health, economic growth, environment and social development, we empower communities to rise above poverty, ensuring that children learn, families thrive and generations flourish. We believe lasting transformation begins when people are empowered from within.
Founded by Pakistani expatriates in 1997, HDF set out to empower rural communities in Pakistan. With a vision of every child in school, healthcare for all, clean water and self-sustaining communities, HDF works to break the cycle of poverty and restore dignity.
At HDF, every act of kindness creates a ripple of hope. Your support brings education, healthcare, clean water and opportunities for communities to thrive. By donating, sponsoring, volunteering or partnering, you join a movement transforming lives across Pakistan, turning compassion into action and hope into reality.
We help communities to be self-sustainable through our holistic model of development. One solution doesn’t end poverty. But one integrated approach can.
At HDF, every number reflects a human story, a child gaining access to education, a mother receiving healthcare, a family finding clean water, or a community building a sustainable future. These impact figures are more than statistics, they are milestones of progress and hope made possible through your trust and support.

Poverty is more than lack of income. It’s the absence of healthcare, education, opportunities, safe environments, and equality, especially for women and children. HDF tackles these challenges through five interconnected pillars of human development, creating resilient and self-sustaining communities.
HDF’s Education & Literacy Program ensures that every child especially girls have access to quality learning. By building schools, training teachers and engaging communities, we break cycles of poverty and open doors to brighter futures.
Education is not just a right, it’s a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty. At the Human Development Foundation (HDF), we believe every child, regardless of gender or geography, deserves access to quality education.
The focus of this program is on providing preventative measures and educating the population on general health. In addition to the 8 Community Health Centers, built by HDF, Health Screenings and Seminars have also been held in villages to improve general health behaviors for families.
These health seminars empower women to live healthier lives and teach their families the importance of diet, cleanliness, and reproductive health.
HDF’s Livelihood & Food Security Program empowers families to break the cycle of poverty by providing skills, tools and opportunities that create stable incomes and lasting food security.
In Pakistan, poverty and food insecurity go hand in hand, limiting families’ ability to earn, eat and survive. Today, 45% of the population lives below the national poverty line and over 11 million people face acute food insecurity (FAO). Rural communities remain the most vulnerable, especially to economic shocks and climate change.
HDF’s Sustainable Environment & WASH Program ensures access to clean water, safe sanitation and a healthier environment for underserved communities. By combining sustainable infrastructure with hygiene education and community ownership, we help families live with dignity, resilience and hope.
Every family deserves access to clean water, safe sanitation and a healthy environment because dignity and health should never be out of reach.
HDF’s Social Mobilization Program empowers communities to lead their own development through Village Development Organizations (VDOs). These community-owned groups bring people together, build local leadership, and drive lasting change from within.
At HDF, we believe lasting change begins within the community. That’s why our work is powered by Village Development Organizations (VDOs) local groups formed by the people, for the people.
HDF events are more than gatherings, they are moments of hope, unity, and action. From fundraising galas and awareness campaigns to community-driven initiatives across Pakistan, each event brings people together to uplift lives and build a brighter future.

In a quiet, overlooked village of Rahimyar Khan, where girls’ education was never prioritized, Gul Naz Akram’s dreams had no space to grow. With no school in the community, her desire to learn remained just that—a distant desire.
Every morning, Majeed would wake up not to a day of comfort, but to a quiet battle; one that began the day he was born with a disability. In a world where physical strength often defines survival, Majid struggled not just with mobility, but with how others saw him: limited and dependent.
In the remote village of Khair Muhammad Goth, Gadap Town, Karachi, 26-year-old Ambreen stepped into motherhood with both joy and uncertainty. As a first-time mother who had just undergone a surgery, she found herself surrounded by misinformation.
In the rugged, far-flung village of Viala, nestled deep within UC Omzha Vilala, District Zhob, Balochistan, life moves with quiet resilience. Here, basic necessities are a daily struggle and clean water was once the greatest of them all.
We work across five interconnected pillars aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Below, we show how HDF brings these goals to life in Pakistan’s most underserved communities.
Five interconnected pillars address poverty at its roots: education, healthcare, livelihoods, social mobilization and a sustainable environment. Healthy children learn better. Educated women drive change. Skilled families earn and thrive.
Vocational training for women and youth. Microenterprise support with livestock, sewing machines, and tools. Climate-smart farming for resilient harvests.
Community Health Centers, mobile camps, and home visits. Maternal care, child immunizations, health education.
Solar-powered filtration plants, hand pumps, delay action dams. Safe toilets, waste management, hygiene awareness.
Tree plantations and afforestation drives. Water conservation and drought-mitigation infrastructure.
Collaborations with USAID, UNICEF, Oxfam, and grassroots organizations.
Every gift goes twice as far. Help transform the lives of two families instead of one by doubling your impact today.
