The Human Development Foundation (HDF) is a non-profit dedicated to empowering communities in Pakistan. Since 1997, we’ve tackled poverty through programs in education, health, economic growth, environment, and social development, helping people build lives of dignity, opportunity, and hope.
At HDF, we go beyond aid to create lasting change. Through programs in education, health, economic growth, environment and social development, we empower communities to rise above poverty, ensuring that children learn, families thrive and generations flourish. We believe lasting transformation begins when people are empowered from within.
Founded by Pakistani expatriates in 1997, HDF set out to empower rural communities in Pakistan. With a vision of every child in school, healthcare for all, clean water and self-sustaining communities, HDF works to break the cycle of poverty and restore dignity.
At HDF, every act of kindness creates a ripple of hope. Your support brings education, healthcare, clean water and opportunities for communities to thrive. By donating, sponsoring, volunteering or partnering, you join a movement transforming lives across Pakistan, turning compassion into action and hope into reality.
HDF’s Sustainable Environment & WASH Program ensures access to clean water, safe sanitation, and a healthier environment for underserved communities. By combining sustainable infrastructure with hygiene education and community ownership, we help families live with dignity, resilience, and hope.
Every family deserves access to clean water, safe sanitation, and a healthy environment because dignity and health should never be out of reach.
Yet in Pakistan, only 39% of the population has access to safely managed drinking water, and just 68% have access to basic sanitation, with open defecation still a pressing challenge.
The consequences are devastating: over 53,000 children lose their lives each year due to diarrhea caused by unsafe water and poor hygiene practices.
The Human Development Foundation's Sustainable Environment & WASH Program is committed to transforming this reality.
We partner with local communities to implement solar-powered water filtration plants, hand pumps, safe sanitation systems, and delay action dams; sustainable solutions designed to ensure reliable access to clean water, even in drought-affected regions.
But our impact goes beyond infrastructure.
We lead efforts in hygiene education, solid waste management, afforestation, and climate-smart practices, empowering people to protect their health and restore the environment they depend on.
In the rural areas where we work, these interventions are critical.
That's why we invest in community-owned structures like Village Development Organizations and WASH Clubs, ensuring that the change we create is not just effective but lasting.
Clean water. Safe sanitation. Resilient communities.
With your support, we can bring this vision to every underserved village in Pakistan.
Our impact numbers show how we’re building strong local leaders, fostering inclusive representation, and driving sustainable change in every community we serve.
