Naheed M. Qayyum, MD (IL), Chairperson
Dr. Naheed M. Qayyum assumed the office of Chairperson of Board of Directors in January 2019. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of Human Development Foundation since its inception. Dr. Qayyum, along with her husband, is one of the Founding Members of HDF. Over the past 20 years, Dr. Qayyum has held various offices in the Board Executive Council and has served as the chairperson of the local Chicago Network.
She is deeply committed to the mission and vision of HDF and brings with her a passion to serve humanity. Her volunteer work takes her to HDF Project sites regularly. She brings with her a broad-based leadership experience from her community service. She is the past President of PPS, Chairperson of Board of Trustees of PPS, Secretary -Treasurer of APPNA SEHAT, and is a lifetime member of APPNA and PPS.
In her professional life, as a graduate of King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, she is an Allergy & Immunology specialist currently in private practice in Chicago suburbs. She is married to Dr. Ijaz Qayyum and has four children.
Shahzad Kazi (IL), Vice Chair
Mr. Kazi is a banker with over 30 years of experience. He began his career in Oil and Gas and then moved to banking. He started his banking career with Citibank in 1992. He has worked in executive roles in Asia, Latin America and in the United States. Mr Kazi has worked with Citibank, ABN-AMRO, SunTrust and HSBC and is currently working as Chief Credit Officer with BECU.
He is also a Senator of Junior Chamber International, headquartered in Coral Gables, Florida.
Mr. Kazi earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from NED University, Karachi, a law degree from University of Karachi and an M.B.A. from university of Wisconsin – Madison
Bashir Chaudhary (GA), Treasurer
Dr. Chaudhary graduated from King
Edward Medical College in 1970. After his Pulmonary Medicine training at the
University of Kentucky, he joined the Medical College of Georgia (Augusta
University) as a faculty member. He served as the Medical Director of Georgia
Sleep Institute and Director of the Respiratory Therapy program. He also served
as the Assistant Dean of Clinical Affairs at the SAHS.
He is currently working as the
Medical Director of Sleep Institute of Augusta and is board certified in
Medicine, Pulmonary, and Sleep Medicine. He has more than 150 publications,
including two books in Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine. His contributions include
the discovery of sleep apnea causing proteinuria and nephrotic syndrome,
pulmonary edema due to sleep apnea, papilledema due to sleep apnea, and the
potential role of sleep apnea in glaucoma and attention deficit disorder.
Lateral posture therapy of sleep apnea, first reported by him, is now
considered standard therapy of sleep apnea.
He has been recognized numerous
times in many categories at the Medical College of Georgia, including being the
best teacher, best researcher, and best inpatient care. He received the highest
award of Lifetime Achievement Award at the Medical College of Georgia. A Research Lab at Augusta University was named
“Chaudhary Research Lab” in recognition of his contributions in 2008. A “Bashir
Chaudhary Research Award” is given annually to the winners of the research
conducted in the Department of Respiratory Therapy.
He served as the treasurer,
secretary, and president of the Southern section of the American College of
Chest Physicians. He was Georgia Governor of the American College of Chest
Physicians for eight years. He was
Counselor for Georgia for the Southern Medical Association. He has served in
many different positions in the American College of Chest Physicians.
He initiated the THANKS
Scholarship program by the King Edward Medical College Association of North
America (KEMCAANA), which now has about 150 scholarships for KE undergraduate
students.
Currently, he serves as Chair of
the HDF-THANKS Scholarships program.
These scholarships are unique as one can establish them at any
educational institution and name them to honor their loved ones. Since these
scholarships are a part of the HDF endowment, they will last a long-time and
represent one of the best forms of Sadaqa- e-Jariyah.
Fatima Hussain (IL), Managing Director
Fatima Hussain is an IT professional working for a major bank. She has been a part of the Human Development Foundation for the past 15 years in various capacities. Fatima is currently serving the organization as the MD to the HDF board of directors as well as leading the organization’s Chicago network.
