Born in
Haji Khan Zohrani village in district Malir of Karachi, Saira was born to a
lower-middle-class family and she looked destined to follow the path of many
young girls in her village. The community was unconcerned about educating
girls, allowing them to only have a primary education from a government school
nearby before marriage.
HDF-FFBL Elementary & Secondary School for girls was the first of its
kind in Union Council Ghaghar Phatak. Free milk, uniforms, books, shoes and
bags were provided to each student of the school. More importantly, a quality
education was being provided through an educated teaching staff and up-to-date
science and computer laboratories.
The school environment appealed to Saira’s parents, and she was able to
study there from class 6. In class 8 she participated in a debate competition
against other schools in district Malir and attained 3rd position, making her
community very proud. Saira was the first girl in her village who finished
class 9 with an A grade and she plans to join BEL college Gulshan e Hadeed for
an F.A. degree after her matric examination.
“The function of education is
to teach one to think critically. Intelligence plus character - that is the
goal of true education. HDF provides all of that. In Ghaghar Phatak, this is
one of the best schools for girls in every aspect.”
