Nazar 2020

Last Update: Oct 14, 2024

Nazar 2020 was launched by the late HDF supporter, Saqlain Khan, in 2017 to help level the playing field and provide hope for a brighter future for kids with vision impairment. Today his wife, Alia Khan, is continuing the partnership with the Human Development Foundation and is looking forward to expanding the program to ensure equitable access to eyeglasses throughout Pakistan. Nazar 2020 program aims to improve the quality of life and learning for kids by providing better vision care in schools across Pakistan.

Sadia received her first vision screening by the Nazar 2020 team in 2019. Today, with her glasses, she can read and finish her schoolwork with confidence. "I didn't know ... I often found it difficult to study," recalls Sadia. Supporters like you provided Sadia with the glasses she needed. "I will never forget this. Thank you ..." Read more about Sadia's struggles and success.

Atooba, age 14, benefited from the vision screening from the Nazar 2020 program in 2019. She is thankful she can now clearly read from the whiteboard and her school books. "Eyes are a precious gift from God, and I might have lost mine ..." Because of donor-funded support, Atooba was able to get the care she needed to correct her vision. "... I am immensely grateful."

CLEAR VISION IS KEY

Clear vision is key for kids to engage and succeed in school, at home, and as members of their community. The vision center of a child's brain continues to develop until the age of seven. If the image they are seeing is not clear, the brain doesn't interpret it correctly and the child will be unable to interpret the world around them in a meaningful way—affecting their development. This results in poor outcomes, from reading and writing in and out of school, to playing with friends, and engaging with the community. Uncorrected vision problems could also lead to more serious eye health issues and even affect mental health.

WHY SCHOOLS PLAY A BIG ROLE

For many children in Pakistan, especially from vulnerable communities, vision screening is not something they or their families are aware of or can afford. That's why schools play an important role as an efficient environment for screening young children who otherwise might not be screened.

BREAK THE SILENCE

Children often stay silent about their vision problems due to lack of awareness. Nazar 2020 helps bring awareness of vision problems and education of the importance of clear vision to both parents and their children.
